Pakistan Government Delegation – June 2025
A high-level Pakistani Government delegation, visited Australia in June to progress long-standing grain, pulse, and oilseeds trade issues. It is hoped this will result in more efficient export pathways for these commodities to Pakistan.
While in WA, accompanied by senior staff from the commonwealth Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry, they observed how the WA grain supply chain functions via site visits and meetings hosted by Grains Australia, AEGIC, DPIRD, CBH & GIWA.
Peter Nash briefed the delegation on the role GIWA plays in the WA grain supply chain, ensuring it works effectively and efficiently through industry collaboration.
GIWA regularly supports Grains Australia, AEGIC, DPIRD and Austrade in hosting in-bound government and business trade delegations.
Grains Value Chain Leadership Program, Indonesian Visit – July 2025
GIWA had the pleasure of hosting a cohort of future leaders of the Indonesian grains industry who were in Western Australia as part of two-week learning experience across Australia thanks to the Australia Awards Short Course on Grains Value Chain Leadership Program. The program enhances the skills and knowledge and helps to develop these networks of these future leaders.
GIWA took the group to CBH’s Kwinana terminal for a tour and presentation followed by a visit to Leon Ryan’s farm east of York before returning to Perth where they were joined by representatives from the GIWA Wheat Council, Grains Australia and AEGIC for an Industry Dinner.
The following day the group spent a day with AEGIC to develop their knowledge of Australia’s supply chain and the importance of wheat and grain quality in July 2025 during which Peter Nash made a presentation about the role GIWA plays in the grain supply chain.
Chinese Malting and Brewing Industry Delegation – July 2025
GIWA CEO Peter Nash and GIWA Chair Tress Walmsley met with a delegation of Chinese malting and brewing industry representatives led by Yuan Yue, Secretary-General of the Beer Branch of the China Alcoholic Drinks Association (CADA) and including He You also from CADA. Yu Junhong from Tsingtao Brewery and Bai Nannan from Dalian Xingze Malting Co while in Melbourne for the AGIC Conference.
The delegates were on a nationwide tour of Australia’s barley supply chain hosted by AEGIC’s Markets Manager Mary Raynes where they visited farms, breeding companies, grain receival sites and logistic centres.
USDA Visit – August 2025
GIWA hosted a contingent from the US Department of Agriculture in August. The group comprised of Lazaro Sandoval, Agriculture Counselor, Foreign Agriculture Service of the USDA, Shannon Moyo, Crop Assessment Specialist, International Production Assessment Division of the USDA and Zeljko Biki, Agriculture Specialist, Foreign Agriculture Service of the USDA.
The contingent visited Western Australia to strengthen relationships with the WA grain industry and gain a better understanding of how farmers respond to changing market and seasonal conditions.
During the visit they met with representatives from CBH, AEGIC and Grains Australia and attended the Barley Forum before a two-day tour visiting farms in the Wheatbelt.
