Interest in growing oats appears to still be on the rise, with nearly 200 attendees at the 2026 OATSPO field day last week (see all the highlights here). These included WA oat growers, researchers, and industry stakeholders, representatives from all of WA’s major oat grain and hay processors and GRDC Western Panel members and Board representatives.
The OATSPO Agronomic Showcase provided an overview of the latest oat research being undertaken across the State while attendees got to walk through the field day site featuring 12 oat growing trials. The event offered the opportunity to focus on the developments within the WA oat industry with a spotlight on breeding, innovation and market access expansion. OATSPO showcased current oat research and developments, including the latest varieties and the agronomic packages that maximise their yield and grain quality.
OATSPO was funded by the Processed Oat Partnership and delivered by GIWA and ConsultAg’s Narrogin team, led by agronomist Garren Knell.
Held on a dedicated trial site in Hillside, 5km north of Narrogin, OATSPO offered growers, researchers and industry an opportunity to connect, learn and challenge their understanding of the current oat sector, and share insights into the future direction of the oat industry.
