Opportunity to join a GIWA Commodity Council | Grain Industry Association of Western Australia

Nominations for membership of GIWA’s five commodity councils (Wheat Council, Barley Council, Oat Council, Oilseeds Council and Pulse Council) are now open.

To provide regular opportunities for new individuals to join GIWA’s commodity councils, and from there the GIWA Board if applicable, one third of the 15 possible Member positions on each commodity council are declared vacant each year.

Membership of a GIWA council comes with an expectation that each council member will volunteer their time, in a pre-competitive spirit, and actively contribute towards industry good outcomes to achieve an efficient and effective Western Australian grain value chain.

GIWA strives to have balanced representation from across the value chain on each of GIWA ’s five commodity Councils. The process to appoint members from those who nominate is explained in the Nomination and Election Process for GIWA Councils policy found here.

GIWA commodity Councils may have up to 15 voting members, however, GIWA reserves the right not to fill vacant positions from nominations received if to do so would result in a particular sector of the value chain dominating the membership of a Council.

Each Council provides a voice for all sectors of the value chain for that commodity, to identify and pursue opportunities, and to air and resolve contentious industry issues affecting the state’s grain industry.
